<b>Celebrity Fashion</b> Lines: The Best Way To Make £1 Billion? | Modest <b>...</b>

The following is a guest post about celebrity fashion lines. If interested in submitting a guest post please read my guest post policy and then contact me.

When Kanye West started down the well-trodden catwalk of music-to-fashion riches at Paris Fashion Week a couple of years ago, he made waves for being the first male musician to try his hand at female couture. He certainly wasn't the first musician to venture into clothing and accessories, and he's by no means the most successful.

Wander through any department store and you're likely to find something with a singer or actor's name and image attached to it – and more often than not these days they're not just vanity projects. Whether you go for an edgy fusion of Asian fashion and formal wear from No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani or a smart jacket from eBay, almost any clothing or cosmetics line has been influenced by someone from the entertainment world.

And although some celebrities find less favour with fashion critics, there's no denying the sway a big name and some sharp designs has with the public. Here are some of the most successful examples.

Diddy : Clothing value: $250m

Hip hop mogul, producer, serial name-changer and now clothing magnate. Before he was Puff Daddy, P Diddy and most recently Diddy, he was plain old Sean John Combs – and this back to basics approach is reflected in his simple, classic Sean John line of shirts, jackets and trousers. Having studied business at Howard University in Washington DC (where he was awarded an honorary doctorate, reports the Daily Mail) before entering the music industry, he's now putting those skills to work. A series of recruitments from firms such as Old Navy and investments in other fashion labels, combined with an audacious ad campaign for his fragrance label, I Am King, has pushed Diddy's clothing empire to a quarter-billion-dollar operation.

Jessica Simpson : Clothing value: $750m

You'd be forgiven for forgetting about Jessica Simpson. Perhaps best known for her role as Daisy in 2005's Dukes of Hazard movie, and less so for her singing career, Simpson has evaded the limelight somewhat by focusing on her wildly successful fashion label. Covering everything from affordable shoes, clothing and fragrances to diamond jewellery, Simpson's ranges have an every-girl appeal. Every girl seems to be buying into it, too: Simpson's operation earned her a "$1 billion girl" tag from New York Magazine.

Victoria Beckham : Clothing value: $95m

Her singing career may have stalled, but the one-time Spice Girl's clothing range is flying high. Worn by the likes of Kate Winslet and Kim Kardashian, Victoria Beckham's designs are that rare thing: complimented by fashion writers, popular with the masses. Her denim, dresses and accessories collections amass almost 100 million dollars each year.

Justin Timberlake : Clothing value: $50m

From Disney T-shirts on The Mickey Mouse Club in the 1990s to classic American denim, the multi-talented Timberlake is quickly becoming a respected clothing designer. Along with his childhood friend Trace Ayala, Timberlake set up the William Rast collection – an amalgam of both guys' grandfathers' names. The look is one of American heritage – hence the name – although Timberlake also dabbles in high-end designs, even showing at New York Fashion Week. It's popular too, turning over some 50 million dollars.

Up In The Club: May <b>Celebrity Fashion</b> at The Pool After Dark <b>...</b>

Posted: 02 Jun 2014 07:14 AM PDT

It was a month of colorful personalities at The Pool After Dark at Harrah's Resort Atlantic City, yet black seemed to be the shade of May on the red carpet. Find out what we mean with most of the stars who stopped by, below.

The month started out with a bang at The Pool After Dark 7th Birthday Celebration with special host Wilmer Valderrama.

Wilmer Valderrama

Wilmer hit the carpet in a pair of classic black dress pants with a matching tie and newsboy hat with a speckled black button up. Very un-Fez. Probably what he was going for. But we love that beloved foreign exchange student! "I said good day!" Alas, it was a good night with Wilmer. Tall, dark and handsome if you will.

May was a little wishy-washy in terms of weather. Hot and cold. Kind of like that Katy Perry song….but Chanel West Coast brought the warmth of her name with appropriate attire to The Pool on May 9th. Check the edgy V-front black romper. The perfect combo of comfort and sexy. We like.

Chanel West Coast

Our homegirl Paris Hilton once again brought what's hot to the red carpet for her second resident DJ gig: A black laced, second-skin, party dress. Totally in right now and perf for the occasion. What can we say? That's hot.

Paris Hilton

Pauly D is usually known for going pretty cas at The Pool After Dark. This time was no different. And perhaps even affordable. A black 100 emoji t-shirt?! You can get that shiz on Etsy for 15 bucks! Dress like Pauly, ya'll.

Pauly D

From one laid back dude to another, Mystery Performer Ja Rule somewhat followed Pauly's lead six days later on May 23rd. HOWEVER, he did bring a little splash of color with his hashtag-friendly turquoise Nike tee with those black shorts! He's real.

Ja Rule

And while Mischa Barton's lacy, long get up from this past Saturday seems very color-of-the-month-like, it's actually a slightly lighter shade of dark blue.

Mischa Barton

We're getting a little warmer here, people. We'll have to sit back and see what June brings in terms of celeb fashion at The Pool After Dark at Harrah's Resort! Fatman Scoop and Dorothy Wang are on deck for this weekend, let's go!

Kourtney Kardashian Is Pregnant, Expecting Third Baby With Scott <b>...</b>

North West is getting another little cousin!

Just two years after the couple welcomed their daughter Penelope, Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick are expecting their third child!.

A source confirms the news to UsWeekly:

"She is only a few months along," one insider tells Us of the third-time mom-to-be, 35, who nonetheless has a pregnancy glow already. Says a guest at the Trump SoHo hotel, where the star stayed after returning to New York City from sister Kim's European wedding week in late May: "Kourtney looked really pretty. She had a nice flush on her cheeks." (Another telltale sign? During a double date with Disick, sister Khloe, and rapper French Montana in NYC, Kardashian abstained from drinking wine and sipped ginger ale instead.)

"It was planned," a source tells Us of the new addition, who will join older brother Mason, 4, and sister Penelope, 23 months. "[Kourtney] wants to have a handful of kids."

Congrats to their family!

The red carpet rests for no one, dear readers. Pour your third cup of coffee of the day and let's get this show on the road.

EMILY BLUNT in London
dress by Osman, shoes by Kurt Geiger

Photo: Doug Peters/PA/Abaca

YES, YES, YES. This dress has everything: print and color, a phenomenal shape (that scalloped neckline! I nearly fainted over how gorgeous it is), and of course, POCKETS! Bitches love us some dresses with pockets. The matching shoes are absolutely fucking perfect, and the chic, laid-back hair and makeup are perfectly paired with that "Yes, I look this good, and no, I don't give a fuck" expression.

She's dominatrix Barbie in the best possible way. Love the texture, the cut-outs, the neckline, and the shoes.

Emily's most formal look was actually my least favorite of her recent red carpet run, though it's still a great look. I abhor the pink purse and even-pinker lipstick with this electric red gown. And though I like that the bustline has some interest, it makes her breasts look positively Lucifer-esque. I guess that's not necessarily a bad thing, but it is a bit awkward.

LUCY LIU at the Huading Film Awards in Los Angeles
gown by Carolina Herrera, purse by Jimmy Choo

Photo: Mark Davis/Getty

Lucy Liu gave us not one, but two fabulous Carolina Herrera looks during her hosting duties at the Huading Film Awards. The cascading metallic shapes on this dress are fascinating to look at, and I love how they gather around her waist to give the gown a little more shape. Hair and makeup are predictably flawless, as befits one of the most beautiful women alive.

A little more traditional, but no less gorgeous. The hair and earrings with it were a lovely, vintage-feeling styling choice.

ALEXA CHUNG at Glamour's Women of the Year Awards in London
dress by Christian Dior

Photo: Mike Marsland/WireImage

I hope Alexa Chung plays normal with her wardrobe more often. Her hipster-fashionista tendencies lead her to terrible things like very clunky shoes and awkward haircuts, but she's never looked more clean and fresh and lovely as she does right now. That lace bib would look insane on most stars, but she's making me love it. And the shoes are sleek and sexy – possibly a first for her footwear – but nonetheless cool and unique.

LAKE BELL at Glamour's Women of the Year Awards in London
dress, purse, and shoes by Christian Dior

Photo: Gareth Cattermole/Getty

The magnificent draping on that dress is made all the more Grecian-goddessy by her fabulous fetal accessory. I can't even believe she can walk in those heels when she's this far along. It does uphold my theory that celebrities develop a superhuman immunity to high heels once they reach a certain level of fame, though. (Kristen Stewart and Shailene Woodley are the outlying data, with their penchants for hitting the red carpet in Chuck Taylors, and those weird foot-shaped running shoes that are now being sued for not actually being better for your feet, respectively.)

TAYLOR SCHILLING in London
dress by Vionnet, shoes by Casadei

Photo: Doug Peters/PA/Abaca

Possibly an all-time best for Taylor Schilling. Good timing, because Season 2 comes out tomorrow and I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT FUCKING WAIT, YOU GUYS. I'm actually mad I have super-fun real-life plans all weekend because it means I can't bingewatch the whole season in one day.

TAYLOR SCHILLING at Glamour's Women of the Year Awards in London
dress by Peter Pilotto, purse by Edie Parker, shoes by Jimmy Choo

Photo: Gareth Cattermole/Getty

Things took a turn for the weird at the Glamour event. The hair is questionable at best, the shoes belong with a different outfit, and the dress has a little too much going on. I still sort of like this dress, but maybe not so much with the white panel in a texture that doesn't work with the bedazzled silver part at all.

DIANE KRUGER in Los Angeles
dress by Dion Lee, sunglasses by Rag & Bone, shoes by Joie

Photo: Rex

I NEED THAT DRESS IN MY LIFE.

HALLE BERRY at the Huading Film Awards in Los Angeles
gown by Elie Saab

Photo: Mark Davis/Getty

I didn't actually know Halle Berry was still doing things, but here she is, wearing a 12-year-old Elie Saab gown. I actually love everything except the lace trim along the slit, which brings things to a French maid place. But the asymmetrical shoulders are stunning, and I love the delicate white flower detail on the dress.

NATALIE DORMER at Glamour's Women of the Year Awards in London
gown by Matthew Williamson

Photo: Gareth Cattermole/Getty

I love that Margaery Tyrell chose this funky star-spangled gown. I'd like the shoes better without a platform, and maybe with one less detail around the foot, but I love basically everything else. Especially the McKayla Maroney face. QUEEN MARGAERY IS NOT IMPRESSED.

SARAH HYLAND at Glamour's Women of the Year Awards in London
dress by Gucci, purse by Roger Vivier, shoes by Christian Louboutin

Photo: Gareth Cattermole/Getty

I adore this glittery Gucci tee shirt dress (I predicted Kylie Minogue would wear it). I don't like the very different shade of gold clutch, which makes the dress look greener by contrast. And I know she can do better than those taupe pumps.

LUPITA NYONG'O in Jersey City, New Jersey
dress and purse by Alexander McQueen

Photo: Jamie McCarthy/Getty

I'm biased, because I love Lupita, and this event took place at Liberty House, where my sister got married. But while I love this dress, the accessories are very heavy, and the hat is kind of cheesy. The strength of the dress and the Lupita factor carry the look, but not far.

AMANDA SEYFRIED in Tokyo
dress by Lanvin, shoes by Rupert Sanderson

Photo: Ken Ishii/Getty

I wish Zoe Saldana had snagged this dress, as I hoped she would. It's just too much for Amanda, even if the dress itself is magnificent. The fit is off, the makeup is too much, and the shoes are depressing.

SOPHIE TURNER at Glamour's Women of the Year Awards in London
dress, belt, purse, and shoes by McQ by Alexander McQueen

Photo: Gareth Cattermole/Getty

Lady Sansa's dress is adorable, though the belt-bustier hybrid is a little odd. And the purse is distractingly large. And the ankle booties don't make sense with this outfit. But she's Sansa and she deserves all the happiness in the world so she can do WHATEVER THE FUCK SHE WANTS. #sansafeels

JAIME KING in Las Vegas
dress by Katie Ermilio, purse by Charlotte Olympia, shoes by Kurt Geiger

Photo: Rex

I think I could like this dress on a young girl, or a total hipster, or maybe an old lady, but I don't like it on Jaime King. Also, is she carrying a clear clutch that has a black tassel? What is going on over there?

HELEN MIRREN at Glamour's Women of the Year Awards in London
dress by Huishan Zhang

Photo: Gareth Cattermole/Getty

I usually think Helen Mirren can do no wrong, but those shoes with that dress say otherwise.

JULIANNE MOORE in Jersey City, New Jersey
jumpsuit by Rosie Assoulin

Photo: Rex

I get that wide-legged pants are a thing again because the 70s are back, but God almighty, those are some fucking ginormous pants. She might have a tiny little starlet hidden in each pant leg. I mean, I hope she doesn't, but it doesn't seem impossible.

NAOMI CAMPBELL at Glamour's Women of the Year Awards in London
dress and shoes by Alexander McQueen

Photo: Getty

I know Naomi Campbell can pull off anything, but try and tell me she doesn't look like an evil Muppet right now. Just try.

Happy Monday, dear readers! Move your day along with a healthy dose of bitchery.

ELLE FANNING in Los Angeles
gown by Elie Saab

Photo: Steve Granitz/WireImage

Well, aren't you just the pretty princess in all the land? The world premiere of the movie in which you play Sleeping Beauty is the ideal place for this gown. It practically screams Princess Aurora. I could have done without the choker, but I like that she managed to surprise us. Go and get it, girl. But she wasn't the only Fanning to work it this week:

DAKOTA FANNING in New York City

Fabulous silhouette; flawless styling. Everything about this is perfect.

CAMILLA BELLE in São Paulo
dress by Gucci

Photo: Venturelli/WireImage

It's bedazzled mauve leather. What the hell more could you want in a dress? I predicted Jennifer Lawrence would wear this dress in a brief break from Dior tradition, but Camilla Belle is definitely bringing the drama in a major way. Lesser women couldn't pull off that much jewelry, but somehow, she makes it work.

CAMILLA BELLE in São Paulo
gown and purse by Gucci

Photo: Neil Rasmus/BFAnyc/Sipa

Gorgeous, if a hair too long. It still makes her look about eleventy billion feet tall.

ANGELINA JOLIE in Los Angeles
gown by Atelier Versace

Photo: Gregg DeGuire/WireImage

This dress is actually not leather – it's rubberized silk. Which I definitely did not know was a thing until right now. Aside from the strange material, which I think I like, it's standard Jolie fare. The spiky jewelry feels a little obvious. If you're going to go in character, you have to commit more than this. Don't just arm yourself with fatal jewelry and call it a day.

CHANEL IMAN in Monaco
gown by Reem Acra

Photo: PA

This is breathtaking, but she'll be naked if she sneezes.

CHRISTINA HENDRICKS in Los Angeles
dress by Zac Posen, shoes by Jimmy Choo

Photo: Joe Scarnici/Getty

That blue is absolutely electric on her. I love it. I wish the shoes were anything but red, but the silhouette of this dress is so darling, I don't really care.

TAYLOR SCHILLING in New York City
top and skirt by Sportmax, purse by Edie Parker

Photo: Bryan Bedder/Getty

A career high for Taylor Schilling. The hair and makeup are a little too severe, but the splatterpaint skirt is awesome and the white accessories really pop with it. Also, I am so desperate for Orange is the New Black to come back that I can't even handle it.

MIRANDA KERR in Sydney
dress by Erdem

Photo: INF

I adore this. It's like a slightly dressier version of all the other Erdem dresses she's worn. The pockets are, of course, delightful.

AMANDA SEYFRIED in London
dress by Alexander McQueen, shoes by Giuseppe Zanotti

Photo: Doug Peters/PA/Abaca

It sort of looks like a kindergarten art project, but in a very chic way. The gold and black strappy sandals are the glue that holds this look together. They are so simple, but so fucking terrific.

AMY POEHLER in New York City
dress by Monique Lhuillier, shoes by Stuart Weitzman

Photo: Steve Mack/FilmMagic

The purse is a little heavy for an otherwise effortlessly light outfit. But I will love Amy Poehler always and forever no matter what the hell she does.

DIANE KRUGER in New York City
dress by Giambattista Valli

Photo: Splash News

The mullet skirt is extremely awkward, but the print and texture are phenomenal and the mint shoes were a fun surprise. It's still a good look overall, but we all know the great Diane Kruger is capable of so much more.

ASHLEY MADEKWE in Los Angeles
top and skirt by Monique Lhuillier, shoes by Stuart Weitzman

Photo: Stefanie Keenan/Getty

The makeup is borderline clownish, but I love the color combination going on here. The soft pink top with the coral-on-acid skirt feels fresh and modern; the combination of different lace textures is really magnificent. The shoes feel like an afterthought, but the purse is really lovely.

FLORENCE WELCH in London
dress by Vilshenko, shoes by Christian Louboutin

Photo: Eamonn M. McCormack/Getty

This dress feels a bit like a Valentino knock-off, and it's all a little underwhelming for the usually outrageous Florence. The accessories belong with different outfits entirely. Flo, I count on you to bring the crazy, but in a much more interesting way than this.

DITA VON TEESE in Monaco
top and skirt by Blumarine, shoes by Christian Louboutin

Photo: Vittorio Zuninio Celotto/Getty

I'm usually buying everything this diva is selling, but even I can admit when she's dug too far deep into the old Hollywood costume box. This color is almost impossible to look at, the fur collar is absurd, and it's even fussier than her usual fare.

HEIDI KLUM in Southampton, New York
jumpsuit by Jenni Kayne

Photo: Rob Rich/WENN

The proportions aren't perfect, but it's the most modern and stylish Heidi has looked in quite some time. I usually feel like her red carpet looks are frozen in time around 2002, but this at least feels more of-the-moment than usual.

NINA DOBREV in Monaco
gown by Jenny Packham

Photo: Pascal Le Segretain/Getty

This gorgeous gown was my Spring 2013 red carpet prediction for Cobie Smulders, but I think it's got some issues on Nina. It's a little too snug, a little too long, and the styling is a little too lazy to carry such an ornate dress.

CATHERINE, DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE in Crieff, Scotland
coat by Jonathan Saunders, shoes by L.K. Bennett

Photo: Rex

Another in a long string of super-fun coats and otherwise unremarkable outfits from Duchess Kate.

MILLA JOVOVICH in Tokyo
gown by Chanel

Photo: Jun Sato/WireImage

I really tried to like this, but it looks more like a cartoon drawing of a red carpet gown than anything else. The bodice is strange, the proportions are nuts, I don't even know what's happening with that skirt, and the bracelet is just ridiculous.

CHARLIZE THERON in London
dress by Stella McCartney

Photo: Mike Marsland/WireImage

We get it. You're beautiful, so you don't have to try. But could you put in the effort anyway, just so boring, non-famous people have something to talk about? God. Think of someone besides yourself for a change.
