The POPSUGAR Diary: What We Instagrammed This Week

Well, we're sad to say Winter has officially arrived. There was lots of rain this week, and our coats came out of the back of our cupboards, but things stayed sunny with the help of a few cool events and new products. For example? Alison trialled a new self tan (it's fantastic), Jasmine brightened things up with her excellent market find and Steph introduced us all to a delicious smoothie bowl. On the entertainment front, Jess attended a screening of 22 Jump Street (her thoughts when you keep reading) and we all talked about Rihanna's CFDA Fashion Awards appearance for days. It's all in here!

Delicious, much? This smoothie bowl is filling, healthy, pretty to look at. . . get the full recipe here!

How beautiful is this Kitchen by Mike display? It was for the launch of the new Palmolive pocket-sized hand sanitisers. So cute.

2 / 24

The end of the week calls for themed dressing, no? Stripes it is!

3 / 24

Reebonz turned one and Jasmine was on-hand to celebrate! As were these designer bags. . .

4 / 24

How could we not dedicate some time to this lady this week? She stole the show at the CFDA Fashion Awards and the world is still talking about her.

6 / 24

Ready for dark Winter lips yet? These Laura Mercier pieces are perfect; they're from the new Sensual Reflections collection, and they are F-I-N-E.

6 / 24

We love them apples! This is one of the cutest packaging ideas we've seen in a while — you can always rely on this Californian brand (theBalm Cosmetics) to step it up.

7 / 24

Jess took a screening of Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill's new movie 22 Jump Street and she reported back that it is "so funny". She even said she'd pay to see it again — if that's not a glowing review, we don't know what is!

8 / 24

These are some of our favourite natural beauty products, all of which are available at David Jones. We pulled them out to celebrate World Environment Day yesterday.

9 / 24

Is there ever going to be a more stylish socialite than Miss Olivia Palermo? She was our style inspo for a sunny by cold Sydney day.

11 / 24

Alison tested the St Tropez Luxe Dry Oil Self Tan and we can all vouch that it looks amazing. A nice golden shimmer, no transfer on sheets and it smells good. Available in September!

11 / 24

How could we not want to cook with eggs with weekend with these fun little things waiting for us? For those of you who like egg in your salads, that slicer is a dream.

12 / 24

Alison made the most of a quick trip to London with a visit to Harrods' famed confectionary area. Hey, if she can't buy the shoes, she'll snap up the sweets.

13 / 24

Black + navy + glitter + Essie = one happy delivery. These pretty prods will be landing in Essie stockists around the country from July.

14 / 24

Jasmine's mid-week accessories brightened our whole day! Amazing bag is from Bondi markets, while the shoulder chain is from Lovisa. Clever, clever Lovisa.

15 / 24

Can you believe this H&M jacket is only $99? We'll be adding this into our collection when it hits stores in September.

16 / 24

Gen works from home on Saturdays, and she always has some of her can't-live-without products close by. Hand cream, lip balm, scented candles, and coffee. Always coffee.

17 / 24

Matt Le Nevez became a dad! Naturally, we needed a pervy shot to celebrate this stellar Aussie actor and his big news. Source: Network Ten

18 / 24

Ask anyone who's tried Aveeno and you'll get the same sentiments: they love it. It's a tried and trusted skincare range and we're kinda addicted to their Daily Moisturising Lotion. Priceline will help you out if you want in on this one!

19 / 24

Does this look like a girl who let's the weather affect her outfit choices? We think not — and we tried to follow suit on a dreary Wednesday morning.

20 / 24

Chelsea De Luca knows how to make a girl shine bright. These gems are new, you can peruse and snap up the range here!

21 / 24

Fashion editor Jasmine tested her fitness in Saturday's Balmoral Burn. If you've seen that hill, you'll know how hard the 420-metre dash is. It's Sydney's steepest street!

22 / 24

It may be kinda dark and gloomy in Sydney at the moment, but this outfit inspired us to be bold and bright. It's Friday, after all!

23 / 24

Associate editor Gen's mum went to Africa and brought back all sorts of handmade accessories, including these teeny giraffes.

Kanye West Slapped With $800,000 Lawsuit for Copyright ... - B. Scott

Posted: 12 Jun 2014 10:48 AM PDT

Kanye West

Another day, another artist is getting sued for improperly using a sample. This time, it's Kanye West under fire for his 2006 song, "Girls Girls Girls Remix."

Robert Poindexter, a member of the '70s soul group The Persuaders, filed a federal lawsuit in New York on May 28, alleging that the rap superstar, 37, illegally sampled the band's 1972 tune "Trying Girls Out (the Composition)" in his 2006 song "Girls Girls Girls Remix."

"Kanye West has never acquired authorization from me or the copyright owners of the composition," Poindexter states in New York court documents. West "willfully infringed the composition copyright for private and financial gain by selling and distributing an untold amount of tangible and digital copies."

Poindexter further alleges he previously attempted to sue West, but the case was tossed in January 2014 because the rapper refused to respond.

The singer claims he suffered millions in financial losses due to West's refusal to credit him for his work, and is seeking $800,000 in punitive damages.

This isn't the first time Kim Kardashian's husband has been accused of swiping songs: Radar previously reported that the family of David Pryor filed a lawsuit last year accusing the rapper of illegally sampling the late singer's tune "Bumpin' Bus Stop" for his 2005 hit "Gold Digger."

It's only a matter of time before Kanye pays for this all to go away.

Listen to both songs below!

Time to hit the red carpet, dear readers.

LUPITA NYONG'O at the Maui Film Festival
dress by Calvin Klein

Photo: Jonathan Leibson/Getty

I wish I had a more eloquent reaction than "OMG YAAAAAAAAS," but sometimes the English language fails me. Everything about this is flawless, from the colorblocking to the pop of red on the side to the matching accessories. Also, I discovered that the lightest bluish green color Lupita is rocking is called "viridian." As if this dress wasn't awesome enough, it also taught me a new word, and as a nerd, that makes me very happy.

KATE BOSWORTH in Singapore
dress by Giambattista Valli

Overwhelmingly beautiful. The dress is a work of art – the shoulders and the red-lined pieces of the skirt are particularly fantastic. And the barely-there styling feels light and ethereal instead of boring. I've never really figured out why Kate Bosworth is still famous when I can't name any movie she's done besides Blue Crush, but it's outfits like this that make me not care. If her profession is showing up at red carpet events looking awesome, then she's damn good at her job.

JANE FONDA in Los Angeles
gown by Vera Wang, purse by Smythson, jewelry by Chopard

Photo: Axelle/Bauer-Griffin

THIS is how you receive your AFI Lifetime Achievement Award, bitches – in a dress that says, "Who, me? You must be mistaken. I can't possibly be old enough for a lifetime achievement award! Just look at these arms!" And the diamond necklace was a perfectly divalicious touch.

ANGELINA JOLIE in London
jacket and skirt by Michael Kors

Photo: Karwai Tang/WireImage

It's appropriate that this outfit makes Ange look like the patron saint of international women's rights, since she's at the End Sexual Violence Conference. Simple, angelic fashion for a noble cause? I'm on board.

ROSARIO DAWSON at Spike TV's Guys Choice Awards
top and skirt by Roksanda Ilincic, purse by Kate Spade, shoes by Chelsea Paris

Photo: Daniel Robertson/Startraks

I'm not accustomed to placing Rosario Dawson in the top half of my recaps, because this lady's red carpet style has been quite sad recently. But she turned it around in a major way at the Spike TV event, of all places. Most ladies tend to go sexed-up at the events run by magazines and networks geared toward men, wearing simple or athletic designs that straight men favor (rather than the trendier, fashion-forward looks that the girls and gays more often go for, if you'll pardon the over-generalizations). So I was particularly excited to see Rosario rock something decidedly non-sexy, but still elegant, chic, and beautiful. The peach/baby blue color combination really sings on her skin tone, and the crop top/skirt proportions elongate her 5'7″ frame to new heights. And the hair and makeup have never looked better.

DIANE KRUGER in Los Angeles
dress by Nina Ricci, purse by Anya Hindmarch, shoes by Christian Dior

Photo: Jason Merritt/Getty

It's all a little bit random, but if Diane Kruger can't make some unique styling choices work, who can? I love the way her lipstick almost-but-not-quite matches her shoes, even if such a bright pink is a little odd with her decidedly serious dress. Anyway, each individual piece of this look is beautiful, even if it all doesn't make sense together on anyone but Diane.

JORDANA BREWSTER in Los Angeles
dress by Peter Pilotto, purse by Kotur, shoes by Jimmy Choo

Photo: AFF

I'm still unsure whether this dress is fabulous or hideous, but you know me, dear readers – if it surprises me, I'm inclined to like it. It's certainly a great statement dress for summertime, with its bold colors and easy-breezy hemline. The accessories might be a little too evening-esque for a daytime event, but overall, I'm on board.

OLIVIA MUNN at Spike TV's Guys Choice Awards
dress by J. Mendel, purse by Monica Rich Kosann, shoes by Brian Atwood

Photo: Frederick M. Brown/Getty

Possibly a career high for the usually forgettable Ms. Munn. I am absolutely obsessed with this deep shade of hunter green, and the juxtaposition of the draped top with the structured skirt works brilliantly. The gold accessories are sharp and chic, but I'm almost never a fan of pin-straight, center-parted hair on the red carpet. I can't think of anything but Gwyneth Paltrow when I see it, and that's the fastest way to make me lose interest in something.

TOM FELTON in London
suit by Burberry

Photo: Tim P. Whitby/Getty

For your viewing pleasure, I present Draco Malfoy in a fantastic three-piece suit. You're welcome, universe.

RIHANNA in Paris
top and pants by Balmain

Photo: Rex

Great top, but no one should be attempting to bring back the cargo pant, not even Rihanna.

EMMY ROSSUM in New York City
dress by Stella McCartney, shoes by Stuart Weitzman

Photo: Alo Ceballos/GC

Whenever there's a Stella McCartney fashion show, you can bet the starlets will be out in droves wearing the label's most awkward designs. Emmy managed to stay ahead of the pack in something marginally chic, if still kind of weird. Also, the hot pink lipstick belongs with a different outfit entirely.

GABRIELLE UNION in Los Angeles
top and skirt by Dolce & Gabbana

Photo: Jason LaVeris/FilmMagic

I didn't know it until now, but I've always needed a lace crop top with sleeves that stop just above the elbow. Gabrielle is selling the shit out of this look.

AMERICA FERRERA in Sydney
gown by Dolce & Gabbana, purse by Edie Parker

Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty

I'd be thrilled to never see a leopard print gown again in my life, but it's a decent look for America Ferrera, who's got more than a few red carpet missteps under her belt. The hair and sleeves pull this look together for me.

AMBER HEARD in New York City
dress by Stella McCartney

Photo: JP Yim/Getty

More Stella McCartney weirdness. Like most designs by the label, I'd like this better if it had like two less distracting details happening in it. The skirt is cool as shit, but with all the draping and fringe and whatever the hell else is happening, it's almost hard to notice.

KATE BECKINSALE in New York City
dress by Monique Lhuillier, purse by Kotur, shoes by Casadei

Photo: Joseph Marzullo/WENN

Boring but pretty, like literally everything else Kate Beckinsale has ever worn.

CATE BLANCHETT in Sydney
dress by Chanel

Photo: FameFlynet

My love for Cate Blanchett's wardrobe knows no bounds, but this was a bit of a disappointment. The embellished bodice is awesome, but the rest of this dress is such a sad sack shape. She looks like a Pilgrim with anachronistic access to a hot glue gun.

JESSICA ALBA at Spike TV's Guys Choice Awards
dress by David Koma, purse by Diane von Furstenberg, shoes by Hugo Boss

Photo: Frederick M. Brown/Getty

Jessica took the aforementioned route of going "guy hot" at the Spike event. It's pretty predictable for Ms. Alba, but I don't think I would mind it except for the shoes. They look like they're made of rubber.

MINDY KALING in Los Angeles
dress by Marc Jacobs, purse by Miu Miu, shoes by Saint Laurent

Photo: Imeh Akpanudosen/Getty

A fun, funky, adorable dress, suiting Mindy's personality perfectly. But honey. Fire your makeup artist. He clearly hates you anyway.

EVA LONGORIA in Los Angeles
dress by Sass & Bide, shoes by Christian Louboutin

Photo: Lester Cohen/WireImage

Awkward and ill-fitting, and that braid looks like it's made of straw.

JAIME KING at Spike TV's Guys Choice Awards
dress by Emilio Pucci, purse by Edie Parker

Photo: Frederick M. Brown/Getty

That's not a dress, it's a medieval torture device. Someone help this poor woman, please.
