Kanye West Slapped With $800,000 Lawsuit for Copyright <b>...</b> - B. Scott Posted: 12 Jun 2014 10:48 AM PDT Another day, another artist is getting sued for improperly using a sample. This time, it's Kanye West under fire for his 2006 song, "Girls Girls Girls Remix." Robert Poindexter, a member of the '70s soul group The Persuaders, filed a federal lawsuit in New York on May 28, alleging that the rap superstar, 37, illegally sampled the band's 1972 tune "Trying Girls Out (the Composition)" in his 2006 song "Girls Girls Girls Remix." "Kanye West has never acquired authorization from me or the copyright owners of the composition," Poindexter states in New York court documents. West "willfully infringed the composition copyright for private and financial gain by selling and distributing an untold amount of tangible and digital copies." Poindexter further alleges he previously attempted to sue West, but the case was tossed in January 2014 because the rapper refused to respond. The singer claims he suffered millions in financial losses due to West's refusal to credit him for his work, and is seeking $800,000 in punitive damages. This isn't the first time Kim Kardashian's husband has been accused of swiping songs: Radar previously reported that the family of David Pryor filed a lawsuit last year accusing the rapper of illegally sampling the late singer's tune "Bumpin' Bus Stop" for his 2005 hit "Gold Digger." Everything about this is flawless, from the colorblocking to the pop of red on the side to the matching accessories. Also, I discovered that the lightest bluish green color Lupita is rocking is called "viridian." As if this dress wasn't awesome enough, it also taught me a new word, and as a nerd, that makes me very happy. KATE BOSWORTH in Singapore dress by Giambattista Valli Photo: Courtesy Overwhelmingly beautiful. The dress is a work of art – the shoulders and the red-lined pieces of the skirt are particularly fantastic. And the barely-there styling feels light and ethereal instead of boring. I've never really figured out why Kate Bosworth is still famous when I can't name any movie she's done besides Blue Crush, but it's outfits like this that make me not care. If her profession is showing up at red carpet events looking awesome, then she's damn good at her job. But she turned it around in a major way at the Spike TV event, of all places. Most ladies tend to go sexed-up at the events run by magazines and networks geared toward men, wearing simple or athletic designs that straight men favor (rather than the trendier, fashion-forward looks that the girls and gays more often go for, if you'll pardon the over-generalizations). So I was particularly excited to see Rosario rock something decidedly non-sexy, but still elegant, chic, and beautiful. The peach/baby blue color combination really sings on her skin tone, and the crop top/skirt proportions elongate her 5'7″ frame to new heights. And the hair and makeup have never looked better. JORDANA BREWSTER in Los Angeles dress by Peter Pilotto, purse by Kotur, shoes by Jimmy Choo Photo: AFF I'm still unsure whether this dress is fabulous or hideous, but you know me, dear readers – if it surprises me, I'm inclined to like it. It's certainly a great statement dress for summertime, with its bold colors and easy-breezy hemline. The accessories might be a little too evening-esque for a daytime event, but overall, I'm on board. OLIVIA MUNN at Spike TV's Guys Choice Awards dress by J. Mendel, purse by Monica Rich Kosann, shoes by Brian Atwood Photo: Frederick M. Brown/Getty Possibly a career high for the usually forgettable Ms. Munn. I am absolutely obsessed with this deep shade of hunter green, and the juxtaposition of the draped top with the structured skirt works brilliantly. The gold accessories are sharp and chic, but I'm almost never a fan of pin-straight, center-parted hair on the red carpet. I can't think of anything but Gwyneth Paltrow when I see it, and that's the fastest way to make me lose interest in something. TOM FELTON in London suit by Burberry Photo: Tim P. RIHANNA in Paris top and pants by Balmain Photo: Rex Great top, but no one should be attempting to bring back the cargo pant, not even Rihanna. EMMY ROSSUM in New York City dress by Stella McCartney, shoes by Stuart Weitzman Photo: Alo Ceballos/GC Whenever there's a Stella McCartney fashion show, you can bet the starlets will be out in droves wearing the label's most awkward designs. Emmy managed to stay ahead of the pack in something marginally chic, if still kind of weird. Also, the hot pink lipstick belongs with a different outfit entirely. GABRIELLE UNION in Los Angeles top and skirt by Dolce & Gabbana Photo: Jason LaVeris/FilmMagic I didn't know it until now, but I've always needed a lace crop top with sleeves that stop just above the elbow. Gabrielle is selling the shit out of this look. AMERICA FERRERA in Sydney gown by Dolce & Gabbana, purse by Edie Parker Photo: Kevin Winter/Getty I'd be thrilled to never see a leopard print gown again in my life, but it's a decent look for America Ferrera, who's got more than a few red carpet missteps under her belt. The hair and sleeves pull this look together for me. AMBER HEARD in New York City dress by Stella McCartney Photo: JP Yim/Getty More Stella McCartney weirdness. Like most designs by the label, I'd like this better if it had like two less distracting details happening in it. The skirt is cool as shit, but with all the draping and fringe and whatever the hell else is happening, it's almost hard to notice. KATE BECKINSALE in New York City dress by Monique Lhuillier, purse by Kotur, shoes by Casadei Photo: Joseph Marzullo/WENN Boring but pretty, like literally everything else Kate Beckinsale has ever worn. CATE BLANCHETT in Sydney dress by Chanel Photo: FameFlynet My love for Cate Blanchett's wardrobe knows no bounds, but this was a bit of a disappointment. The embellished bodice is awesome, but the rest of this dress is such a sad sack shape. She looks like a Pilgrim with anachronistic access to a hot glue gun.
